Values
For a recent values session, I drew inspiration from the work of a former colleague to build a puzzle-based interaction. Teams were given a sealed envelope with the instruction that everything they needed to open a locked box was provided. Teams quickly realized the combination to the lock box was on the flip side of an assembled puzzle. The lock box then opened to a value that the team would reflect upon, and provide insight on in how this value showed up in their puzzle solving session. Next, each person in the room reflected on all the organization's values, and were asked to provide specific examples of how and when this value was observed in the workplace.

The objective of this session was to take what are lofty - yet sometimes abstract - organizational values, and make them real.

Outcomes from this session include the practice of recognizing, naming, and celebrating our values in our daily work. As well, values-based metrics are incorported into performance reviews.
